Mission Statement

Campus Ministry seeks to enrich and advance the larger mission of Alvernia College, “to learn, to love, to serve,” by encouraging all members of the Alvernia community to uphold the Franciscan values of prayer, fellowship, and service. As such, students, faculty, and staff are called to deepen their faith through relationship with God, to respect the unique goodness of each individual as part of God’s Creation, and to respond to the needs of their community and the world with a spirit of selfless service as embodied by Christ in the Gospels and imitated by Saint Francis. Campus Ministry encourages members of the Alvernia community to integrate their faith into the academic and social environment of the college and to advance peace and social justice initiatives in the world around them. While rooted in the spirituality of the Roman Catholic Church, the Office of Mission and Ministry recognizes the Christian call for inclusiveness and welcomes persons of all faith backgrounds, encouraging a spirit of ecumenism and inter-faith dialogue. Our hope is to create opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to respond to God’s call, and to grow in their knowledge that we all walk together, sharing a common humanity and a thirst for God through truth, love, and a purposeful life.
