As a public, two-year institution, East Central Community College seeks to meet the educational needs of traditional and non-traditional students from its five-county support district of Newton, Leake, Neshoba, Scott and Winston Counties. In addition to students from the rural five-county district which is serves, East Central also serves a limited number of out-of-district, out-of-state, adn international students. The College is committed to accessibility through its open door admissions policy, affordable cost, varied offerings, and support services. In a continuing effort to meet these needs, the College, through its board of trustees, administration, faculty, and staff conceives its purpose to be to provide instruction and service. To achieve its instructional goals, the College provides programs of instruction which incorporate knowledge and skills applicable to life in a complex world society. In addition to offering its students opportunities for their mental, physical, and emotional development, the College, as a service provider, also offers the constituencies of the district counties opportunities for assistance for growth and advancement.
To successfully fulfill its purpose, East Central Community College provides, at minimum cost, a variety of programs which include senior college or university parallel, technical, health-related, vocational, adult, and remedial education. In addition, the College provides quality instruction through voice, video and electronic technologies to enable the students to attain their educational goals. The College further subscribes to and provides for self-improvement, continuing education and community services, workforce training, small business development, career exploration resources, special workshops, and other opportunities.
